The level of competition in team arena is hardly comparable to late HOH stages and I just think 1/4th of the reward is still too much (Even 1/4th is questionable because unless you can maintain a constant flow of 7 good people to play with, you would be stuck with hours of searching for a party that might only rack up 1 to 10 fame, which has a HUGE difference compared to 282 fame in 2 hours.). Other that, I'm quite interested in how multiple fame-resetting ladders will work out. . However, I haven't been playing much for the past month therefore my loss is hardly comparable to those who have gathered up thousands of fame so there could be a completely horrid side to this which I just can't see.
You're absolutely right. As you and others have pointed out, the Tomb-in-two-hours calculation I displayed is a little tough to swallow. It's a difficult comparison to draw, as that sort of success is typically shortly-lived/few and far between. Perhaps I was a little too forward to include it as a transition between ideas.

As far as there being a completely horrid side that you can't see - don't worry, I can't see it either.

In my opinion, it comes down to weighing short-term effects with long-term consequences. Chapter One (which this retail product is) needs to set a standard for two types of people - those who will continue to purchase the expansions, and those who will continue only with Chapter One. From a business/longevity perspective, how can the game benefit from a static, unchanging Fame system? Let me ask another pertinent question -
What are you (the nay-sayers) going to do when you reach your Rank 9, 10, 12 and receive your final emote? I hope you're all easy-to-please people, because I'd personally find an unchanging aspect like that to get old after awhile.

If thsi was reset though I couldn't have any more fun in Team Arenas. Know how a team often shows their /rank emote at the begginning of the match? Well showign the charging other team 4 dragons and having them just quit gives you one of the fuzziest feelings that a video game can give you. The best was the time when this team of 4 kept saying we were all screwed and they did 4 tigers only to be stupified at 4 dragons.

O well I wouldn't mind a reset that much as it would allow me to rank my second account quicker as I wouldn't have to worry about rank 6+ groups for it.

To suggest that others who don't envision the same atmosphere for GuildWars don't deserve equal Fame notoriety is sadistic and completely against the core message that the developers have been building upon.

There is always room for improvement. GuildWars is no exception. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, but if the Developers ever decide to build upon their core concept - I truly hope you can find it in yourself to realize that it's what they've been saying all along.
the process of going through the fame grind sucks, yes, i agree. it's incredibly boring and tedious.

however, the concept of fame grind only in Tombs is necessary in order so that 100% of the playerbase does not have an emote. if everyone has one, then emotes have zero signifigance. emotes won't mean a thing if everyone has one. the only reason why emotes are significant and worthwhile right now is because most people have don't them.

in addition, "time spent" is not the only factor in getting emotes. one also must have skill in order to be accepted into winning parties. a horrible player might be accepted into a good party once or twice, but once they see how bad he plays then he won't be able to keep earning fame with them in future rounds. hence, a horrible player could spends eons in Tombs and still have very little fame to show for it. my point in this is to say that the acquisition of fame is one part grind, one part skill. hence the fame grind as it now stands, is not entirely contrary to the stated philosophy you have quoted

if they want to "improve the system", then they can do that by automizing a party-finding system which lists potential players for you in a menu based on rank and class, and maybe even include other information like "average time spent in a PVP area" etc. there are definitely ways to improve the fame grind, but making it so every player can get fame easily is not a good solution.

Before i start commenting on the mesure, I would like to say that since september 7th I have not logged on to play the game, I log on simply to check on the guild, because after spending countless hours since the game hit alpha in last years E3, i realized after the last patch that this game is going nowhere in terms of pvp and competition. Therefore, this comment might be subject to some bias. You have been warned.

While the idea of resetting personal rank seems logical when one compares it to the idea of resetting guild rank, to wipe all stats accumulated in past versions of the game where there were balancing issues and to trigger fresh competition, further analysis can make one doubt if such a mesure would enhance the pvp exerience at all.

- First of all, one must try to understand the purpose of personal rank. I believe it was implemented for two reasons;to give players a feeling of accomplishment and give them a way to show off through the flashy emotes and to be able to choose to make VIP parties (PVP and maybe even PVE) for experienced players who know the game mechanics very well.

1. What if fame was reset?
Let us imagine what would happen if fame was reset.

--There would be no sense of *age* in the game for a while and everyone would be considered new to the game (or the pvp scene at least) and making parties of experienced players would be more of a hassle. There would still be the trusty friend list of people we know, but still, it would hurt the guild recruiting and the *LEET* pug group creating process.
My guess is tombs would be widely ignored because of that, and GVG would be more popular, being the only place where some kind of rank would matter.

(I do not know how much time a season would last (3-4 months?) but I know I certaintly would not want to try to get fame going up just to be zeroed after 3 months.)

2. What if fame was reset with color coded emotes?
Let us imagine what would happen if fame was reset, and color coded emotes were introduced.

--Well, the impact would depend on how all this time since the official GW release would be considered -A very long season, a preseason, or not a season at all.
Considering the purpose of resetting fame would include (according to the post) putting everyone on the same level after the balance issues were resolved, my guess is the time since GW release would not be considered a season and therefore no color coding would be in effect as of the fame reset.
(Please correct me if i am wrong)

Players would probably be torn between getting fame to tomb with experienced or to GVG. The penalty to those would ignore tombs in favor of GVG would be enormous whenever those same players would want to tomb with experienced parties (again hypothetically and in general, i know friend networks still exists) considering all the new levels of ranks there would be with color coding. (the yellow tiger would prob mean nothing compared to the red one and the fame needed to get to the red one would be multiplied by the number of seasons you had to play to get there).

Well i have to cut it short since i have to go, the last part of the post was a bit rushed so feel free to crap on my last thought, I got to go play some football. My point is there would be no point to changing fame as it already serves its purpose by letting other players know through their emotes how experienced they are in the game NO MATTER WHAT THE BALANCING ISSUES WERE AT ANY GIVEN TIME. They were there, they exploited or not, the point is they knew how the mechanics worked and played accordingly.

As to Fame and Rank, they are both marks of personal achievement and will not be affected by a guild ladder reset.
